The Sensor e-Textiles design research project has developed sensory garments and textiles for people with late stage dementia. The aim is to develop personalised textiles containing embedded electronics that extend the sensory properties of the materials. The participatory research has included physicists, computer scientists and web designers as well as textiles specialists, care professionals, occupational and art therapists, people with dementia and their families. The research has included four technical workshops including one held as part of the Tiree Tech Wave. Project partners include Professor Cathy Treadaway from Cardiff Metropolitan University, Wales, Gwalia Cyf and Dr Gail Kenning from University of Technology Sydney. Workshops have been held in Cardiff FabLab and Gwalia Mynydd Mawr Residential Care Home where people with dementia and their families participated in the research.
